China tops tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in July

Aug 05, 2015 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's tourist arrivals rose 31 percent from a year earlier to 175,804 in July 2015 with China becoming the top generating market, data from the state tourism promotion office showed. Chinese arrivals rose 65.5 perecnt to 25,120 from a year earlier, while the total in the seven months to July rose 77 percent to 119,705.

Indian visitors were up 28 percent to 24,681 in July from a year earlier. In the seven months to July total arrivals rose 16.

8 percent to 1,005,855. Visitors from South Asia was up 36 percent to 36,360 in July also helped by a 23 percent rise in Maldivian visitors to 6,023. Arrivals from Western Europe rose 18 percent to 64,905, with arrivals from UK rising 23 percent to 20,643. French visitors were down 0.2 percent to 9,080 but visitors from Germany were up 7.2 percent to 8,494. Visitors from Eastern Europe rose 16.7 percent to 7,378 with Czech tourists rising 60 percent to 957. Russian visitors fell 5 percent to 2,514.
