Committee appointed to look into irregularities in four state banks during last 5 years

Aug 19, 2020 (LBO) – A committee has been appointed to look into the instances of irregularities and ineffective actions in the four major state banks during the last five years, the Finance Ministry said.

Accordingly, Bank of Ceylon, People’s Bank, National Savings Bank, Regional Development Bank, and related institutions will be investigated for irregularities.

The committee is chaired by former High Court Judge Sisira Ratnayake. Chartered Accountant Susantha de Silva and retired Additional Auditor General W Premananda are the other two members. A representative of the Ministry of Finance holds the post of Secretary of the Committee.

The committee will present its report with recommendations to the Cabinet within three months.
