Aug 01, 2013 (LBO) – Sri Lanka has cleared a tax anomaly which can make single cab trucks, especially some Indian brands, cheaper, Deputy Treasury Secretary S R Attygalle said.

Until now imported single cab trucks were charged two rates of taxes based on whether the engine was protruding forward or not which had made some Indian made trucks more expensive compared to others like Chinese-made ones.
Attygalle said following representations by motor traders the anomaly had been cleared and taxes will now be charged based on the payload and not the placement of the engine.
One rate will be charged on trucks with a payload of 800 kilograms or lower and another rate on trucks with a higher payload.
This has made some Indian made brands such as Mahindra cheaper, he said.
