Korea mulls mega infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka

June 23, 2016 (LBO) – A South Korean delegation has visited Sri Lanka to discuss cooperative methods for large-scale infrastructure projects including the Western Province Megapolis and the construction of the Central Expressway. Vice Minister of Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Kyung Hwan, accompanied by government officials, visited Sri Lanka recently. A large business delegation representing the infrastructure sector, including Korea Expressway Corporation, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and Korea Water Resources Corporation, were part of the visit. Vice Minister held bilateral meetings with Megapolis Minister Champika Ranawaka and Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Highway with regard to the large-scale infrastructure projects.

He also made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and discussed various ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and economic engagement in the infrastructure sector, along with agriculture and education. During the meeting with International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama both sides discussed several issues of mutual interest including energy-related projects and an industrial complex in Sri Lanka.
