Shavendra Silva appointed as Sri Lanka’s new Army Commander


Aug 19, 2019 (LBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

The appointment came after Army Chief Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake officially retired from service yesterday.

Reports said that Silva’s appointment will be for a period of 4 months along with 6 months of service extension.
