Tharushi, with her determination and prowess, secured a gold medal, competing in the women's 800m final, becoming the first Sri Lankan since Susanthika Jayasinghe and Damayanthi Dharsha to clinch
the Asian Games gold medal for Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan sprinter also set an Asian record and a national record at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand. The victory marked a historic moment for Sri Lanka by breaking a 25-year-old Asian record in the event. This extraordinary feat places her among the elite athletes and revives the spirit of sporting excellence in Sri Lanka.
In recognition of Tharushi's remarkable accomplishments, Siddhalepa provided her with a gift pack at an event held on 13th October at the Kandy City Center, which was organized to appreciate Tharushi and her coach, Susantha Fernando.
