Mar 19, 2014 (LBO) - A beach festival in Bentota in Southwestern Sri Lanka will kick off next week targeting water sports lovers and tourists, particularly those from Russia and Ukraine, officials said. The Bentota Beach Festival will start on March 21. It is organized by the Hawkeyes, the sports arm of Sri Lanka's Military Intelligence Corp, the Bentota Sports Club and Sunshine Water and Sports Club for the third year running.

Organizers say Russian and Ukrainian visitors are targeted because they are found to visit Sri Lanka at this time.

"We have done a small survey and we have seen an increase number of Russian and Ukraine people in the island, Chula Kodithuwakku, Chairman of Hawkeyes said.

"So we have mainly targeted them. Propaganda wise, we have already printed reflects and distributing in both languages,

"There were quite number of tourist participated for the last year’s festival and we hope to see about 1000 tourists participating for this year."

The festival will have adventure sports, beach football, volleyball, rugby, tug-o-war, swimming, jet skiing, canoeing, stand up paddling and wind surfing races as well as local sports like kabadi.
