Sri Lanka tourist arrivals down 22-pct in October

Nov 07, 2019 (LBO) – The total number of international tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka during October was 118,743 and in comparison to October last year, there is a decline of 22.5 percent when the arrivals were 153,123.

This month, the largest source market for tourists was India, followed by China and the United Kingdom. Almost 98 percent of the tourists travelled by air to Sri Lanka.

As of 31 October 2019, 1,495,055 tourists had visited Sri Lanka for this year.

Yet. it is a decline of 20.7 percent over the last year when 1,885,045 of tourists has visited the country during the same period.

Asia and Pacific became the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 56 percent of the total traffic received in October 2019.

Europe accounted for 37 percent of the total traffic, America 5 percent, Middle East 2 percent and Africa 0.5 percent.

India was the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 28 percent of the total traffic received in October 2019.

China accounted for 10 percent of the total traffic; while the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia accounted for 7, 7 and 5 percent respectively.
