Oct 31, 2016 (LBO) – Consumer prices in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo accelerated 4.2 percent in October 2016 from a year earlier, up from 3.9 percent in September, the state statistics office data showed.
Inflation of the food group increased from 5.5 percent in September to 6.0 percent in October while that of non-food group remain unchanged at 2.5 percent during this period.
For the month of October, on yearly basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was 2.86 percent and contribution of non food items was 1.34 percent.
The moving average inflation rate for the month was 3.6 percent while the corresponding rate for September was 3.4 percent.
The CCPI for all items for October was 189.7 and it records an increase of 1.2 index points or a percentage of 0.63 compared to September for which the index was 188.5.
This increase represents an expenditure value of 334.83 rupees in the “Market Basket”.
