Sri Lanka’s Dialog Axiata introduces mobile payment app

Oct 06, 2017 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s diversified telco operator Dialog Axiata has introduced a mobile payment app which enables bill payments directly through credit or debit cards. The new service, named as “Genie” will offer a common wallet to customers and many established payment options available in Sri Lanka is to facilitate purchasing of any product or service within the Genie network of merchants. Payment options currently available include Visa, Master, Credit or Debit Card. The company said savings or current account and mobile money is also to be added soon. The service is open to all mobile subscribers in Sri Lanka and any smartphone that is compatible to Android 4.3 or iOS 8.1 will have the functionality. It intends to offer a comprehensive payment solution for businesses and the maximum limit is 100,000 rupees per transaction. The company said they are committed to protect any sensitive personal information under the possession, by exerting necessary safeguards in order to provide the highest level of customer service. The Central Bank and ICTA is still debating over which entity should be the one to regulate country’s long awaited National Payment Platform and the fate is to be decided once the ongoing investigations are concluded.
