June 19, 2013 (LBO) – State-run SriLankan Airlines said it is offering mobile check-in and access to its loyalty program and other services for customers with smartphones. A mobile application developed with Virtusa Corporation, a software firm, allows passengers to select their seats and check up to two hours before departure.
“Customers are increasingly accepting high-tech travel options,” SriLankan chief executive Kapila Chandrasena said in a statement.
“Global customer surveys indicate a demand for opportunities, for passengers to take control of their own travel for greater convenience.”
The ‘Self Service Fast Travel’ option will allow passengers to select their seats, get a boarding pass access services from the airline’s ‘FlySmiles’ loyalty program, check schedules and sign up for alerts and special offers.
In addition to reducing waiting time and ‘paint points’ for passengers, mobile check-in will also cut costs, the airline said.
