May 02, 2014 (LBO) – State-run SriLankan Airlines has inked code-share deals with Finland’s Finnair and Siberia based S-7, with more deals in the offing, chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe said. In a code share deal, airlines will operate aircraft on one or more routes with joint flight codes and sell tickets.
Both airlines are members of Oneworld, a global airline alliance which SriLankan has just joined.
“Code share talks are at an advanced stage with more oneworld partners,” he said. “This will make it even easier for customers to reach more places.”
SriLankan already has a code-share deal with Malaysian, another one world partner.
Oneworld has 15 airlines from all key regions of the world and 30 affiliates.
Loyalty programs of alliance partners and lounges can be used by each other and standards are also set.
