Tilak Marapana sworn in as Sri Lanka’s new Foreign Minister

Aug 15, 2017 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Development Assignments Minister Tilak Marapana on Tuesday was sworn in as the new Foreign Affairs Minister before the President.

The appointment was made after Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayaka last Thursday announced his resignation in parliament over corruption charges leveled against him, though he denied all allegations against him.

Meanwhile, former Ambassador to the US Prasad Kariyawasam assumed duties as the secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning.
