Jan 21, 2019 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena has inaugurated a hotline for the public to inform authorities about the acts of drug smuggling and related crimes.
Toll-free telephone number ‘1984’ which was earlier used by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board as the hotline for counseling and operational activities will be used to obtain information related to narcotics-related cases.
Meanwhile, a National Drug Prevention Week has been announced from today to get the active participation of school children.
During the week, awareness programmes are scheduled to be held in classrooms to apprise the students about drug prevention and parents will also be invited to the school to conduct legal awareness programmes with the students.
Awareness campaigns on drug menace will also be held for political authorities, voluntary organizations, religious places, and Dhamma Schools.
