November 6, 2018 (LBO) – UPFA elected member of Parliament from the Galle District, Manusha Nanayakkara has resigned his deputy ministerial portfolio and pledged his support to Ranil Wickremesinghe as the legitimate Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
In a thoughtful letter below explaining his position, the former journalist accepted the stance of the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. He also pointed out the the purported new government has not been recognised by any foreign nation to date.
Nanayakkara is the first of many expected UPFA MP’s deciding to vote their conscience and support a vote saying that the actions of the President are illegal and unconstitutional.
The support extended by Nanayakkara is likely to be one of the key turning points in Sri Lanka’s constitutional crisis.
