Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is also the Finance Minister, told Parliament yesterday that there will be many surprises in the next budget.
He was responding to a query made by the Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance Harsha de Silva on DDO.
“Don’t go to the company that is making unconscionable profits and ask for money to run the sessions, you can’t have it both ways,” said Wickremesinghe.
“If you are taxing them tax them otherwise don’t tax them but there will be taxes on the profits made by these that will come in the budget. So don’t worry about that, we are not leaving anywhere on the side. But at that time you will vote against the budget because we are taxing them so this is what it is going to be. You find many surprises in the budget but this is to get it through because we have to get the economy moving again.”
