The has government got international commitment to raise in excess of a billion dollars, over the next three years to rebuild the war ravaged economy.
The announcement came at the end of a donor seminar for Sri Lanka hosted by the United States on Monday, which included representatives from 30 other governments and international financial institutions.rn

rnThe governments estimates are part of an overall document to be presented at the upcoming Tokyo donor confab to be held on the 9-10 of June.rn

rnOf the US$ 1.3 bn needed, US$ 459 mn is urgently required to reconstruct the North and East. The funds would largely be channelled into health, education, resettling displaced people, housing, infrastructure and agriculture. rn

rnAt Washington, US Deputy Secretary of State Richard L Armitage presided over the donor seminar and discussed avenues on how the international community can help rebuild and strengthen the ongoing peace process, the US State Dept. said in a statement.rn
