The bomber was escorted to a police station opposite the US and British diplomatic missions after security guards prevented her from entering a ministry in the high-security area of Colombo, a military official said.rn

“She was being questioned and about to be searched by two women police constables when the blast occurred,” the official told AFP. “It was a powerful explosion and rocked the adjoining buildings.”rn

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse was in his adjoining Temple Trees official residence which also felt the blast, officials said. Police said no foreigners were among the casualties.rn

Hospital director Hector Weerasinghe said the bodies of the four policemen were brought to the hospital together with nine other people who were in a critical condition. Four others suffered minor injuries.rn
