Jan 17 2007 (LBO) – Sri Lankan companies should do more to make it easier for physically challenged customers to work with them, an activist body has said.
“An environment of this nature welcomes people. Winning people is definitely a potential business opportunity,” Ajith Perera from the Idiriya organization said.
A customer lost is a lost business opportunity. Now it is good time to take note and see to what extent our business environments are able to welcome all people, Perera said at HSBC’s Premier centre in Colombo, which was remodeled in a disabled friendly way.
The centre™s entrance was refitted with a ramp for wheelchairs while the toilets were fitted with handgrips and the height of washbasins reduced.
Chairs have also been refitted with rubber bases to increase friction.
We also hope that this initiative taken by HSBC will encourage other businesses to adopt the concept of creating an environment which is accessible to everyone, CEO, HSBC David Griffiths said.
We are one step closer to establishing a society that does not marginalize or discriminate against people with limited mobility.
