Growing Pool

Mar 30, 2009 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's software export industry said it is trying to promote the island as a BPO (business process outsourcing) destination for finance and accounting outsourcing (FAO). The Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) and the Information and Communication Technology Agency recently held meetings in London and Barcelona to promote business linkage and create awareness of BPO capabilities.

"Sri Lanka is global recognized as a niche centre of excellence for Finance and Accounting Outsourcing with the world’s second largest pool of UK qualified accounting professionals only second to the UK," SLASSCOM said in a statement.

Sri Lanka is ranked among the top 20 centres for FAO in the world, it said.

Global companies such as WNS, Amba Research, Quttro and HSBC have set up their FAO centres in Sri Lanka among several other local and international companies to take advantage of the growing pool of highly qualified accounting professionals in the island.

About fifteen emerging outsourcing nations are competing for a share of the global outsourcing business estimated to be worth 150 billion US dollars.
