July 12, 2007 (LBO) – The governing board of Sri Lanka's central bank is filling a vacancy with President's Counsel K C Kamalasabayson, the monetary authority said Thursday. He was educated at St. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and was conferred a First Class Honours Pass at the Advocates Final Examination from Sri Lanka Law College in 1971.

He replaces Chandi Chanmugam who completes his second 6-year term as member of the Monetary Board on July 17, 2007, a central bank statement said.

The Monetary Board runs the institution that is commonly referred to as the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and is charged with setting interest rates and regulating the banking sector.

Kamalasabayson's appointment takes effect on July 18, 2007.

Kamalasabayson was Sri Lanka's the Attorney - General from 1999 to April 2007. He joined the Attorney - General’s Department in 1974 as a State Counsel and was appointed as Senior State Counsel in 1984.
