Hayleys, one of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates, has interests in rubber and coconut-based products, plantations, transportation, automobiles and technology. It also has an insurance joint venture with American International Group (AIG) and has expanded into the power generation sector in a partnership with AES Corp. (AES) of the U.S.
The group last year acquired a 1,100 TEU second hand ship, and gave it out on a charter.
“We go for back to back agreements, if a company wants a ship we buy it and give it to them. But we are looking out to acquire some ships,” says Mohan Pandithage, Director Hayleys Group.
