Aug 28, 2013 (LBO) - Fonterra, a New Zealand based milk producer said it was resuming operations at its Sri Lanka unit after assessing that there was no threat to staff. "Last Friday we took the decision to temporarily suspend our Sri Lanka operations to protect our people, and to protect our farmer shareholders™ assets," chief executive Theo Spierings said in a statement.

"I am now confident that our people are safe and the business is ready to resume operations and continue selling high quality dairy nutrition to Sri Lankan people."

Nationalists protested in front of the factory and a court order was also issued for the factory to stop operations..

A court order which had prevented Fonterra from selling its products in Sri Lanka, was overturned in a district court last Friday.
