Sri Lanka has asked all non governmental organisations who are on a drive to raise money for tsunami victims to channel the funds through a special bank account.



Sri Lanka has asked all non governmental organisations who are on a drive to raise money for tsunami victims to channel the funds through a special bank account. The Exchange Controller's Dept has asked commercial banks to open a special "Post tsunami inward remittance account" from Feb 15 to channel foreign donations.

"Hereafter, all foreign remittances to NGOs should be channelled through these accounts. If any NGO wishes to open more than one account with different banks and with different branches of a bank depending upon its locality of operations and the project requirements such accounts are permitted," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank has registered 3,485 applicants totalling Rs, 3.48 bn to receive soft loans under its Rs.

5 bn tsunami relief package.
