Peiris comments came on Friday evening following the Presidents move on Tuesday where she removed three portfolios off UNF Ministers and prorogued parliament until November 19. rn
rnHer Excellency is only working on that mandate said Peiris adding that Tuesdays incidents were within the Presidents mandate. rn
rnThe mandate as interpreted by Peiris requires the President to take corrective action if the government or any of its ministries that goes astray and is well within her powers as President in a cohabitation government. rn
rnThe President, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga won the 1999 Presidential election, defeating present Prime Minister and her then toughest adversary Ranil Wickremesinghe for the top seat. rn
