Mar 27, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Freedom Party general secretary told LBO that the party is yet to decide a disciplinary action against parliamentarians who participated in a pro-Mahinda rally.
“We haven’t taken any decision on that yet, I can’t decide it my own, that’ll be decided at a party meeting in the future.” SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.
The SLFP earlier banned its parliamentarians, provincial councilors and local government members from attending rallies organized by other political parties without prior approval.
However over 20 parliamentarians participated the rally held in Ratnapura campaigning to nominate former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the prime ministerial candidate in the next general election.
Bandula Gunawardana, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygunawardana, Kumara Welgama, T.B. Ekanayake, Salinda Dissanayake, S.M. Chandrasena, Manusha Nanayakkara and Uditha Lokubandara were among parliamentarians who participated the rally.
Western provincial council chief minister Prasanna Ranatunga and former North Central provincial council chief minister S.M. Ranjith were also take part the banned rally.
