Sri Lanka in push for German visitors

June 05, 2008 (LBO) – Sri Lanka is hosting a workshop and familiarization tour for more than 100 German travel agents in a bid to lure more visitors, the island's tourist promotion office said. The program will increase awareness about the Sri Lanka among German travel agents and motivate them to sell and promote the destination more effectively, the tourism promotion office said.

"This indeed provides an opportunity for us to showcase and push our products and services in the German market, where we have seen a set back in the recent past," chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Renton de Alwis said.

"There is no better alternative than experiencing what the destination has to offer."

Sri Lanka Tourism and Sri Lankan Airlines and ground handling agents are hosting travel agents from Thomas Cook, REWE Touristik, Berger & Meer and Sun Trips from June 08 to June 14.

These agents were chosen based on performance in generating tourists to Sri Lanka, the tourism office said.

Two journalists from FVW and Touristik Aktuell travel magazines will also be in Sri Lanka.
