Sri Lanka passenger bus caught in blast: military

Jan 16, 2007 (LBO) — A public passenger bus has been caught in a blast Wednesday morning in Sri Lanka’s Moneragala district, the defence ministry said as a ceasefire with the Tamil Tigers officially drew to a close. A ceasefire with the Tamil Tigers struck in 2002 officially ends today after the Sri Lanka gave notice of the pull out two weeks ago. The bus was traveling from the town of Buttala to Okkampitiya, an area towards the Southern part of the island bordering the Eastern province of the country.

Tamil Tigers are still present in some parts of Eastern Sri Lanka, though populated areas are now under government control.
