Protectionist measures do not help in the long run. It only increases the cost of living for the general public. Why aid the greed of a few while the rest of the country suffers for it? I thought we left such practices behind on January 9th. If the government wants to help these local farmers, get them to increasing efficiency to be more competitive with the international market. If they increase the quality of their produce or do away with inefficient habits, there is no doubt they can be productive. Protectionist measures just lead to farmers depending on the government without having the incentive to modernise their farming methods to increase yield.
