Sri Lanka tourist arrivals down 27-pct in Sep 2019

Oct 07, 2019 (LBO) - The total number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka during September 2019 was 108,575, down from 149,087 visitors or 27.2 percent from the same period last year.

In September almost 98 percent of tourists travelled by air to the island.

As at 30th September 2019, 1,376,312 of tourists had visited Sri Lanka for this year, down 20.5 percent over last year when 1,731,922 of tourists has visited the country during the same period.

In September the largest source market for tourists was India, followed by the China and United Kingdom.

Asia and Pacific became the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 58 percent of the total traffic received in September 2019.

Europe accounted for 34 percent of the total traffic, America 5 percent, Middle East 2 percent and Africa 1 percent.

India was the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 27 percent of the total traffic received in September 2019.

China accounted for 8 percent of the total traffic; while United Kingdom, Australia and Germany accounted for 8 percent, 6 percent (both) respectively.
