Sri Lanka’s media walk out of Finance Ministry briefing after they were kept waiting for two hours

Mar 23, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s journalists from print and electronic media institutions, today walked out of a press conference organized by the Finance Ministry after been kept there for almost two hours.







The Ministry sent out the invitations calling for participation of the said media institutions last evening saying the press conference will start at 10 a.m on Monday. The message which was circulated through a text or SMS read “Please provide coverage for a press conference to be held at the Ministry of Finance at 10 a.





m tomorrow (23rd), chaired by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Finance.



Upon reaching the ministry the journalists were informed that the briefing was postponed to 10.

30 a.m. However, later the journalists were told that Industry and Commerce Minister, Rishard Bathiudeen would be joining the press conference and that he would be delayed till 11 a.

m. The briefing was said to be on the issues with regard to the pricing of cement and tinned fish both consumer goods which come under the purview of Industry and Commerce Minister.
