The World Bank has come forward with a US$ 64.7 mn loan to finance agro and community development projects in the North & East. The funds will be channeled through the International Development Association (IDA), while the government will chip in with US$ 13.72 mn and local communities US$ 2.72 mn, the Finance Ministry said Friday.

"The project will support to help conflict affected communities in North & East and the adjoining areas to restore livelihood, enhance agricultural and other productions and incomes, and build their capacity for sustainable, social and economic re-integration," the statement said.

Part of the funds will go towards essential rehabilitation and improvements in selected major irrigation schemes and pilot initiatives in districts of Trincomalee, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Ampara and Batticaloa.
