US promotes Sri Lanka investment

Aug 14, 2009 (LBO) - The United States is holding a conference in Colombo in October, with participation of Sri Lankan officials for US firms to explore investment opportunities following the end of a 30-year war in the country. "This private-public conference will provide U.S. firms a unique opportunity to be among the first investors in the newly opened regions of Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern Provinces," a conference notice published on the US government's Export.gov websitesaid.

"Participants will meet one-on-one with Sri Lankan government officials to discuss specific investment opportunities.

The Sri Lanka embassy in USA said it was a joint initiative by the office of the U.S. trade representative, U.S. department of commerce and the embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington.

The Conference titled 'Make Sri Lanka your next business stop' will be held on October 13 and 14 in Colombo.

The conference targets IT, healthcare, tourism and leisure, infrastructure, diamonds, gems and jewelry, manufacturing, processed food and education.
