Sri Lankas slow moving infrastructure projects are lined up for fast forward implementation through a new central coordinating body, says the Treasury Secretary.
The government is hoping to fast forward Sri Lankas slow moving roads, ports and power projects through a central procurement agency that will function under the recently set up National Council for Economic Development (NCED).rn
rn”The procurement procedures of these projects are extremely complex. That is one reason for slow implementation,” Treasury Secretary Dr. P B Jayasundara told journalists on Monday.rn
rn”We will set up a procurement agency to streamline the procedures and transactions to increase the speed on these projects,” said Jayasundara.rn
rnThe agency will work with donors, lending organisations and relevant line ministries and departments to remove roadblocks and increase coordination.rn
