The Royal Dutch Shell Group will give US$ 3 mn to disaster relief efforts in Asia, with part of the funds coming through special schemes on fuel.
Of the aid, US$2 million will be donated locally, and distributed through operating companies in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Shell schemes in operating countries, such as through a contribution on each litre of fuel, is expected to net in US$ 1 mn, bringing up the total.
“We expect other local Shell schemes around the world to deliver a further US$1mn, such as the donation to relief funds of 5 cents for every litre of petrol and diesel sold in Singapore during the coming week,” a statement from the Group said.
Immediate disaster relief on the ground after killer tidal waves struck on Sunday, included provision of fuel for rescue transport in Thailand, and supply of water tanks in Sri Lanka.
