Vote on Account first; 2025 Budget early next year: NPP Economic Council

Author lbostgadmin | Posted on September 26, 2024 | Budget

The new President plans to introduce a vote on account to cover expenditures until a fully-fledged budget is presented next year, according to Professor Anil Jayantha, Chairperson of the Economic Policy Committee of National People’s Power.

“We are proceeding with a vote on account this year to facilitate the IMF’s third review,” Professor Jayantha stated. “We intend to discuss this with the IMF next month.”

Professor Jayantha also mentioned that a comprehensive budget for 2025 will be presented to Parliament by early next year.

The IMF has indicated that they plan to discuss the timing of the third review with the new administration as soon as practicable.
